What the public is unaware of is that this notorious hitman is actually a polite young lady named Monaka. Could the placid face of an innocent high school girl really disguise such a ruthless killer? Monaka seems to be just an average high school girl. But she has a dark and terrible secret linking her past to a murderous police detective and her future to a fatal duel with the one person she loves most in the world. However, what her friends and co-workers don't know is that she's also a cold blooded assassin. Nights she spends killing apparently evil men throughout the city. Her father works on a space station and longs to see her, also unaware of her moonlighting hobby. Kite Liberator is sort of a sequel to Yasuomi Umetsu's film Kite. The mood is decidedly less depressing and the theme material is handled much less gratuitously. Kite, was more or less a hentai with some nice action fight scenes thrown in. Kite Liberator is more of an action film, with some comedy throughout. The animation is quite smooth, the shootouts and chases are fast and the explosions are big. All this is good but the action never seems to reach the peak of it's potential. All the characters battling feel graceful and capable of prolonged conflict but none of the action scenes go on very long and even the climax at the end felt snubbed.Īny number of ideas are presented and not a single one is carried to term. He is also writing the story, designing the character, storyboarding, and the screenplay writer.Ĭharacter arcs are started and begin to be flushed out, when the movie is suddenly and confusingly halted. :) Not exactly sure what to expect from an animation studio whose forte seems to be producing hentai. What has my attention is that it is a sequel to Kite, a very bloody OAV. In the previous series, “A KITE”, a killer, Sawa, suddenly disappears after she avenges her parents` death, and no one knows where she is. Several years later, a figure dances airily on the dark side of a big city. She is an angel of death, killing her victim gracefully and disappearing. Monaka is a normal high school student, though this quiet and modest life has a darker side. what the hell was Umetsu on when he thought up this scenario :heh: NASA astronaut gets mutated into grotesque alien with huge pincer arms in space, while his cute daughter on Earth waitresses at a sleazy restaurant and moonlights as a blue-eyed assassin! An angel of death is Monaka’s other persona. The first part with Monaka doing her Sawa routine was vintage Kite, but after that the whole OVA went downhill with the NASA subplot. Why, oh why did this have to turn into some cheesy sci-fi horror knockoff? And that ending.hoo boy. Most awkward family reunion ever :eyespin:Īs a Kite sequel, it fails miserably. Good thing Sawa was spared from this mess. Really? I thought it was obvious that Manatsu(The older waitress) is Sawa. I don't even think you could compare the action though. Sawa and Oburi were fighting for their lives and almost losing at multiple points. The action in this OVA was bland and leaves you with no rush whatsoever. So vastly different in terms of action and overall theme, in a bad way in my opinion.Īlso, horrible ending and no exploding body parts. Sawa's friend is killed, and the viewers are left wondering who Sawa's guest really is.
