There’s a lot of attention paid to why characters would want to enter a contest to the death for money. One of the biggest successes of Bloodshore – and equally perhaps the biggest indictment of our society – is how it accurately nails the battle royale situation and the world’s reaction to it. But ultimately this isn’t enough to make you want to keep replaying to witness all 250 recorded scenes the game proudly states it offers at the end of each run. That said, there certainly are different scenes and decisions to make, and they definitely can change how the story ultimately plays out. A Supermassive Games branching narrative this is not, and those expecting something on that scale will be disappointed. Sometimes getting to those moments makes complete sense, other times it feels a little convenient and contrived, which is a shame. Despite that, it still has key beats that play out every time irrespective of what option you choose. The story is short, maybe 60 to 90 minutes depending on how long you survive. Your choices and actions affect the story, in a narrative that changes depending on which options you go with. And whilst the story is interesting in parts, it’s hard not to long for the next moment you’re asked to make a key decision and feel like you’re actively part of something. Simply watching what unfolds based on your latest choice is less fun. It’s ironic really that you are a contestant in a game show that is watched by millions around the world because for most of the time you also feel like a member of the audience. However, the passive nature of FMV titles is alive and well in Bloodshore too. The Ari character is a particular highlight often providing the comic relief that often lands well. The actors make the situations believable and do a good job at portraying their varied personas well. They deliver a good balance of humour, conflict, and darker tones. The characters and acting quality is actually pretty good, with a good cast, with lines acted well. And unsurprisingly Bloodshore has both these positives and negatives as a result. The other side of the story is not only the limitations placed on a limited set of video recordings but also the passive nature of watching things unfold vs actually interacting. On the one hand, you literally get photo-realistic quality environments and characters and the immersion that comes with that. The choice to use FMV as the main tool in a game is always an interesting one. These include your audience opinion, the unity of your initial landing group, a love interest score, a strength meter driven by the weapons you hold and team members too, ad finally your Insight which demonstrates how much you’ve managed to uncover about what’s actually going on. Some decisions affect the story, but as well as that, they also affect one of five ratings. The majority of the game plays out in FMV, interspersed with decisions Nick has to make. And so begins a story of choices, survival, and uncovering just what is going on behind the scenes at KillStream. The group of 50 players is split up into 6 landing parties, so initially you are familiarising yourself with a handful Ultimately only one of you will make it out alive and claim the grand prize, so there’s no one you can really trust. Thrown onto the island with you are a bunch of wannabe influencers and Youtube streamers doing it for the fans and stream traffic that comes with it. In Bloodshore, you enter the latest KillStream series as Nick Romeo, a washed-up former child actor. Unfortunately, though, that feeling of deja-vu becomes all too apparent after playing this short game multiple times, and realising its branching storyline is really anything but. Its reality TV, Youtube-obsessed fanbase also feels eerily familiar and relatable, like something we’ve seen before. So yes it has more than a whiff of the popular Netflix series Squid Game, and some Hunger Games too. It’s an FMV game centred around a battle royale where the winner receives a life-changing sum of money. Timing is everything, and in that sense, Bloodshore is right on the money.

Stelio Candelli as Rosentski's Enforcerįilming took place in the Dominican Republic.David abhors firearms but has no objections to fighting back using bladed weapons, booby traps, molotov cocktails and his shark, Cyclops. Rosentski's enforcer, however, wants the diamonds for himself and leads an assassination squad against David. Rosentski promises he will pay off Liz's considerable business debts as well as reward her if she recovers the disc and diamonds. He correctly surmises that James had gone to hide with his brother David and arranges a meeting with David's ex-wife, Liz. Rosentski is displeased with his enforcer's jumping the gun. The plane explodes, while James survives just long enough to hand over the disc and the diamonds to David. James Ziegler crash lands in a seaplane near David's shack. David lives with his friend and business partner Paco and has a seagoing neighbor, a man-eating shark named Cyclops. Ziegler goes to hide out with his brother David, who lives as a beach bum and shark hunter on the coast outside of Cancún. The enforcer tries to kill Ziegler but fails and Ziegler successfully escapes with the disc and the diamonds. Rosentski decides to pay Ziegler for the disc but instead sends his enforcer to retrieve it. Shark Night 3D Production: A Relativity Media release of a Rogue, Incentive Filmed Entertainment, Sierra Pictures presentation of a Next Films, Silverwood Films production. His dream finally comes through when he records a sensitive conversation between Rosentski and the President of the United States so sensitive that he demands $2 million in diamonds from Rosentski for a disc of the recording. While that might create a terrifying creature feature for our enjoyment, we can at least find relief that there is a very, very, very low chance of a shark attack happening in a lake.James Ziegler has spent five years of his life planning the perfect crime, bugging the communication devices of Rosentski, an influential and rich businessman. Given the premise of the movie has no basis in a real-life event - and the villain's explicit revelation that he got the idea from watching Shark Week - it seems likely Shark Night is more about taking the massive popularity of Discovery's shark-filled week of programming and exaggerating it to the point of horror. Still, there's no particular incident on which Shark Night is based. Fun fact: Bull sharks can be found in lakes because they're able to survive in both fresh and saltwater, according to Shark Savers in addition to Lake Pontchartrain, bull sharks have been seen in the Mississippi River, the Illinois River, and Lake Michigan. Plus, a bull shark was caught in the same lake earlier in 2016 according to WGNO. Most fatal shark attacks occur in the ocean, though there was a story of a boy attacked by a shark in Lake Pontchartrain in 2014 as reported by USA Today. Thankfully, from what I could tell researching fatal shark attacks, there hasn't been a single one in a lake. But, other than Shark Week, does Shark Night have any real-life inspiration? It's later revealed that the sharks were put into the lake on purpose and those who filled a saltwater lake with sharks were inspired by Discovery's Shark Week. But, since this is a horror movie, it isn't long before the titular sharks come calling - yes, even though they're on a lake - terrorizing the teenagers and picking our heroes off one by one. In typical horror movie fashion, the film starts off with a group of rambunctious college students heading out to one girl, Sara's, family vacation home that sits on the edge of a private lake. But I have to wonder: Is Shark Night a true story? From what I can tell, Shark Night isn't based on a real event, but it does take some inspiration from real life.įirst off, let's recap exactly what Shark Night is all about. One particular addition to the lineup is 2011 horror movie Shark Night. Sharknado: The 4th Awakens is almost upon us - yes, Syfy most definitely did make a fourth installment in this particular B-movie franchise and, yes, I will be tuning in to live-tweet the heck out of it - which means Syfy has had a whole week of shark attack-related programming geared up for fans. Ashes of War can be applied to or removed from weapons, and each Ash adds a Weapon Art, a special ability that can be used during combat. Weapons in Elden Ring can be improved using Ashes of War, obtainable items that grant weapons new capabilities. The player can memorize a limited amount of spells, which can be cast using a staff or Sacred Seal item. Spells in Elden Ring allow the player to enhance their own weapons, fight enemies from afar, and restore lost hit points. Attacks from enemies can be blocked using shields or avoided by dodging. Combat with enemies can be within melee range, or from a distance using ranged weapons or spells. The player chooses a character class at the start of the game, which determines their starting spells, equipment, and attributes. Aside from open world areas, Elden Ring also features hidden dungeons, such as catacombs, tunnels, and caves where players can fight bosses and gather helpful items. Throughout the game, players encounter non-player characters (NPCs) and enemies, including the demigods who rule each main area and serve as the game's main bosses. Open world areas are explorable using the character's mount, Torrent, as the primary mode of transportation, along with the ability to fast travel outside of combat. Set in an open world, players are allowed to freely explore the Lands Between and its six main areas these locations range from Limgrave, an area featuring grassy plains and ancient ruins, to Caelid, a wasteland home to undead monsters. It features elements similar to those found in other games developed by FromSoftware, such as the Dark Souls series, Bloodborne, and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. By July 2022, the game had sold more than 16.6 million copies. Elden Ring received critical acclaim for its open-world, gameplay systems, and setting, with criticism going towards technical performance issues upon release. In Elden Ring, players control a customizable player character on a journey to repair the Elden Ring and become the new Elden Lord. The game was released for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S on February 25. It was directed by Hidetaka Miyazaki with worldbuilding provided by the fantasy writer George R. Players will just have to wait and buy the full game if they missed out on the Elden Ring network test.Elden Ring is a 2022 action role-playing game developed by FromSoftware and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment. This applies to original releases like Dark Souls 3 as well as rereleases and bundles like Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin Edition and Dark Souls Remastered.Įlden Ring could buck this trend by launching a demo prior the game’s release date, but that appears unlikely. However, Dark Souls demos haven’t been made available to the masses through services like Steam, the PlayStation Network, or Xbox Live. Games such as Bloodborne and Dark Souls 3 have had network tests prior to their releases, and demos that were playable specifically at promotional events. Though anything remains possible, FromSoftware games rarely receive demos that are made available to the public. Will Elden Ring have a demo?Įlden Ring does not have a demo and it’s unlikely that it will receive one before the game’s official release date on February 25. Hidden areas and enemies were discovered in Elden Ring’s trial run and there will likely be other hidden lore and gameplay mechanics unearthed in the future. Network tests in FromSoftware titles are historically rife for data mining and Elden Ring was no different. Beat times here refers to the time in seconds for a beat to sound relative to the entire duration of the track. The main reason for this is because the tempo of any music track affects the time signature significantly. Įstimating time signature is a challenging task because all the beat times after the downbeat (strong beat) before the next downbeat do not always correspond to the total number of beats in a bar, especially for audio music. This shows both pace and relative intensity of certain beats, so that different types of rhythms may be distinguished at the same timing. Additionally, the idea of strong beats must be considered in this process because strong beat spectrum peaks will occur during repetition moments in highly organized or repeated music. With anacrusis in mind, estimating the time signature becomes tougher when the first note of the piece is not the strongest note. Anacrusis was defined by Lerdahl and Jackendoff in two ways: “from the start of the group to the most powerful beat inside a group” and “from an upbeat to its related downbeat”. “Down” beats are times of stronger metric stability in the field of meter. Upbeats and downbeats represent the simplest manner of associating downward motions with melodic movements to metrically stable points. Time signature estimation and detection cannot be possible without understanding the concept of upbeat, downbeat, and anacrusis. There are also irregular time signatures that are much more difficult to estimate. The compound signatures are a multiples of the simple time signatures in terms of the number of beats. Examples include 2 2, 3 4, 4 4, or 6 8 which means 2 minim beats, 3 crotchet beats, 4 crochets beats, and 6 quaver beats in a bar, respectively. There are simple and compound time signatures that are relatively easy to estimate from the lead sheet or audio files. It is defined as a ratio of two integer numbers, where the numerator indicates the number of beats in a bar and the denominator specifies the note relation. The time signature (sometimes referred to as a meter signature or metre signature) is a symbol for western music which specifies the number of beats (pulses) in each measure (bar). In addition, the staff contains details about the tempo, the beginning, the end of the bars, and the time signature. It is the sum of the previous duration only when there is no rest and there are no place where two notes play together. Offset is about the duration of the part from the beginning of the piece. Onset notes refers to the beginning of a notation or another sound and all musical notes have an onset, but do not always contain the first transient. Symbols are used in standard staff music notation to denote note duration (onset and offset times). It summarizes a song by representing the notes of the main theme, the chord series, and other cues such as style, tempo, and time signature. The majority of popular music scores are composed in a particular style known as lead sheet format. Suggestions for improved estimates and future research projects are also discussed. However, the success of this research area could be an added advantage in a broader area of music genre classification using deep learning techniques. Results of the studies analyzed show that, in general, the process of time signature estimation is a difficult one. More than 110 publications from top journals and conferences written in English were reviewed, and each of the research selected was fully examined to demonstrate the feasibility of the approach used, the dataset, and accuracy obtained. The results of the research have been divided into two categories: classical and deep learning techniques, and are summarized in order to make suggestions for future study. The purpose of this review is to investigate the effectiveness of these methods and how they perform on different types of input signals (audio and MIDI). This paper presents a thorough review of methods used in various research articles published in the field of time signature estimation and detection from 2003 to the present.
Strings (that look like a date) and real numeric dates. Note that here column B contains 2 different kind of data. ISO8601StringToDate = DateSerial(ISO8601Split(0), ISO8601Split(1), ISO8601Split(2)) 'DateSerial returns a real numeric date ISO8601Split = Split(ISO8601String, "-") 'split input yyyy-mm-dd by dashes into an array with 3 parts Private Function ISO8601StringToDate(ByVal ISO8601String As String) As Date ' convert yyyy-mm-dd string into numeric date OldDateAge = RetVal 'return the age as result of the function 'subtract date1 from date2 and divide by 365 to get years, then round down to full years to respect the birthday date. Image 1: #WERT! means #VALUE! (sorry for the German screenshot).Īlso in column D where the formula =DATEDIF($B2,TODAY(),"y") was used the string dates cannot be calculated with. You can see that if we enter pre-1900 dates that they are formatted as string (red dates) and post-1900 dates get formatted as numeric dates (green dates). We already know the fact that Excel cannot calculate with dates before 1900. So let's start and assume the following data. The calculation for that would be different. So the question needs to be asked more precisely. But this year she would have turned 44 years ( 2021 - 1977 = 44). Today she would not have had birthday yet this year and therefore she would be 43 years old. X": For example lets take the birthday of Maryam Mirzakhani compared to the date today. Second there is more than one way to calculate "how many years since the birth of Mr. Therefore a date format that cannot be misinterpret is a clear advantage. Since old dates cannot be real numeric dates but only entered as strings (looking like a date) that means misinterpretation needs to be avioded or you get wrong results. First of all I highly recommend to use the ISO 8601 format yyyy-mm-dd for dates because even if you only have strings and no real numeric dates this is properly sortable and the only date format that is defined clearly and cannot be misinterpret like where no one can ever say if it is mm/dd/yyyy or dd/mm/yyyy because both actually exist. From here, Selene is transported to another world. It’s then that we see that the creature’s name is Theia: the name of Selene’s mother. The figure soon jumps up and grabs Selene by the throat, but Selene is able to fight them off. Returnal’s secret ending sees Selene confront a strange figure in a wheelchair. Complete Returnal’s second Act again, defeat Ophion, and use the Car Key on the sedan you find at the bottom of the crater.
An instructor may appropriately respond if the student fails to satisfactorily complete the assignment or examination within a reasonable time after the absence. A student whose absence is excused under this subsection may not be penalized for that absence and shall be allowed to take an examination or complete an assignment from which the student is excused within a reasonable time after the absence. This notification must include an explanation of why notice could not be sent.ħ.2.1 Excused Absences Defined by State and Federal Regulationsħ.2.1.1 In accordance with Texas Education Code Section 51.911 Religious Holy Days, Texas A&M University shall excuse a student from attending classes or other required activities, including examinations, for the observance of a religious holy day, including travel for that purpose. In cases where advanced notification is not possible, the student must provide notification by the end of the second business day after the last date of the absence. Violation of this attendance policy is subject to disciplinary action through the Aggie Honor System Office and the Student Code of Conduct ( See Rule 24).ħ.1.1 Unless otherwise stated in this rule, to be considered for an excused absence the student must notify the instructor in writing (e-mail is acceptable) prior to the day of absence. Requests to reschedule an examination must be submitted to the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs in accordance with the process set forth in the School of Law Academic Standards. JD students are expected to take examinations as scheduled. Juris Doctorate (JD) students are not required to seek an excused absence from an instructor or equivalent, but students will be administratively dropped from a class for excessive absences as defined in the School of Law Academic Standards. The School of Law requires regular and punctual attendance of students in all courses. Graduate and professional students are also expected to attend all examinations required by departments or advisory committees as formally scheduled such as, but not limited to, qualifying exams, preliminary exams and final defenses. Instructors are expected to provide notice of the dates on which major exams will be given and assignments will be due on the course syllabus, which must be made available by the first class period. Students enrolled in distance education courses are expected to regularly engage with instructional materials and complete all assignments by stated due dates. Students taking traditional face-to-face courses are expected to attend class and to complete all assignments by stated due dates. Class attendance and participation is an individual student responsibility. In the first stage, the rectangular bin and the coming part are transformed into matrix representation, and generating the position matrix that indicates possible ways of packing the part into the bin. The method of C,S&O hybridizes the idea of "gold corners, silver edges and grass belly" in the Chinese game Go and the method of finding picture corners in machine vision. The algorithm cannot make use of information about the sequence of future objects that are going to arrive, only knowing the shape and size of the coming one, and the coming part must be packed into the bin immediately after its arrival without buffering or readjusting. The objective of the packing problem variant is to ensure maximum use of the raw material and minimize the trim loss. In this paper, we propose a three-stage method called covering, corner-searching and occupying (C,S&O) to solve the two-dimensional multishape part packing problem. The express or ore samples come in heterogeneous shapes so they cannot all be treated as rectangular pieces. With the upgrade of the task difficulty, the traditional 2d rectangular layout algorithm can no longer meet the needs of modern industry, such as express packing task and exoplanet ore collection task. It's a fun game, but you'll know the answer to that question better than we will.īut I'm not going to get it. For those who do, ask yourself how much you want a portable version with 3D graphics. Token attempts at variety are pencilled in here and there, but the game itself starts to feel a little too familiar a little too quickly.įor those who don't own the WiiWare version, Pokémon Rumble Blast is recommended. We're not conflicted about whether or not we can recommend this game - we very easily can - but we are conflicted about how closely it hews to the original formula. The two-player cooperative mode is certainly welcome and also a lot of fun, but Download Play is not supported and both players will need to own the cartridge. The 3D is absolutely a feature, as certain attacks and cut scenes take full advantage of the 3DS's visual capabilities, and there are also StreetPass features available that allow you to smack some strangers around. But otherwise, you're not going to find much you didn't already find on WiiWare. There are also towns to visit that serve as resting points, and shades of a larger story which - thankfully - does not dominate the actual gameplay. In addition to the Battle Royale, as well, the game features Charge Battles and Team Battles, which shake up the rules somewhat but still deliver on the larger-scale anarchic fun. The larger battles fare a bit better, as they're always frantic and busy enough to distract you from the repetition. Even much of the WiiWare game's music was ported over without change, and that's sort of puzzling as it wasn't anything all that great to begin with. With WiiWare's limited file size, this was understandable on a cartridge, it's hardly even forgivable. There's some nice background activity here and there, but they're basically just differently-styled enemy pits, and that can get dull after a while. It's less good, though that the full retail release didn't add much more variety to the game. It's good because the WiiWare release was a smooth, enjoyable experience, and that's still the case here. And, again, that's both a good and a bad thing. So far, this all pretty much sounds like the WiiWare release. Periodically, when your army is strong enough, you can enter your Pokémon soldiers in larger battles for prize money, but you can't befriend anybody that you beat in these situations. Each area has a set number of Pokémon that you can befriend, and you'll see how many you have yet to befriend each time you enter. Needless to say, befriending the giant bosses is always a good idea.Īreas are clearly delineated, and you enter them from a more cohesive overworld. Any befriended Pokémon are added to your roster and you can choose to control them at any time. The ability to befriend is always based - at least a small amount - on luck, but there are ways within the game that you can increase your chances. When you attack other clockwork Pokémon, you will either defeat them or "befriend" them. This might sound like a complaint, but it isn't: this very simplicity gave the WiiWare release so much of its charm, and it's a relief to find that it wasn't needlessly complicated here. The famous Pokémon weakness chain is in effect here, but beyond that the battles consist of simply attacking and retreating at the appropriate times. The simplicity of the controls means there's very little in the way of strategy. Eventually you can unlock attacks for a second button, but you can only ever hold two attacks per Pokémon at a time, and if you collect a third you'll have to lose one of the ones you started with. The core gameplay of Pokémon Rumble Blast is simple: you control a little clockwork Pokémon with the circle pad, and use a single button to attack. Those who haven't played the WiiWare game would do well to read our Pokémon Rumble review, as nearly all of it holds true for the sequel. |
